Babies in the Maasai kraal (enclosure) are cared for by their mother and by any daughters she has. The babies are wrapped in their caretaker's colorful rectangular shawl and taken everywhere. The Maasai kraal is designed not only for their own comfort but also for the protection of their cattle who are sheltered in the kraal during the night. Houses of branches and grass sealed with dung for warmth and dryness are built along the enclosure by the women. |
